support from Adrian Crowley + My Two Toms (Sat 4th / 7.30pm / £6) Few artists today come close to locating the heart of traditional American music like Charlie Parr. Playing both tradition and original folk and Piedmont-style blues on resonator guitar, twelve-string and banjo he invokes the spirits of Mississippi John Hurt, Carl Perkins and John Fahey. His world is a rustic place where heartbreaking delicate banjo tunes rub shoulders with gritty, bluesy stomp-a-longs. Lyrically the songs deal with the usual litany of human miseries and occasional joys: aging, death, loneliness, god, regret and even love. Support from Irish singer-songwriter Adrian Crowley and the ever-green My Two Toms. Plus Stitch-Stitch DJs in the bar. http://www.qujunktions.com |
